how & why I became a make-up artist

About

Hi! My Name is Nina and this, as you can guess, is my website. I was born in 1993 in Vienna, where I live and work at the moment.

All creative work I do started with me spending the majority of my childhood drawing. I really wanted to become an illustrator, so when I was 13, I went to graphic design school, where I learned most of the skills I now use for creating digital collages and retouching.

5 years of constantly being infront of the computer took it’s toll on me though, so as soon as I got my degree, I changed fields and started working on theater plays, as a directors assistent. I discovered make-up through this, mostly by accident. One evening, the make-up artist we had booked for the show wasn’t available, so I jumped in to help the performers get ready.

From there it became clear to me very quickly that I wanted to learn more about make-up and I went on to study at Delamar Academy in London. I still think of this as one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life. Seriously, if you can, consider going there. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

After my year in London ended, I came back to Austria and began working on short-films, photoshoots, ads and musicvideos. I spend 3 years taking every job I could, met some of my closest friends on set and learned a LOT through trial and error.

Nowadays I combine my interests into what I’d call a one-woman-creative-agency. I love getting up in the morning and doing something slightly different everyday so I feel very, very lucky to be able to work as a cross between graphic-designer, content creator and make-up artist full time.
